One of my favorite reads of all time is Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, so you can just imagine how geeked out I was when I saw this news at Ken's website!
Pillars of the Earth is being made into an 8 hour tv mini-series!! I didn't see much on the actual airing date, but saw something about summer of 2010. I'll bring you more information as I find it!
Filming of the eight-hour limited series of The Pillars of the Earth on location in Hungary and Austria started in June 2009. Ian McShane, Donald Sutherland, Rufus Sewell, Matthew Macfadyen, Sarah Parish, Hayley Atwell, Eddie Redmayne and Gordon Pinsent headline the star-studded cast for the US$40-million adaptation.Trailer:
The series is directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Heroes, Saving Grace, Into the West), and has been adapted by award-winning writer John Pielmeier (Emmy winner Hitler – The Rise of Evil and Emmy nominated The Memory Keeper’s Daughter), who also plays the role of 'Cuthbert'.
The series is being produced by Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Tandem Communications (Ring of the Nibelungs, Impact, Lost City Raiders) and multi award-winning Muse Entertainment (Human Trafficking, Tales from the Neverending Story, Durham County) in association with Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Scott Free Films (CBS’s series Numb3rs, Emmy nominated minis The Andromeda Strain and The Company).

I sure did Muse and loved it, though not as much as Pillars! They are looking into making World Without End into a miniseries as well!
ReplyDeleteA good friend and colleague of mine (we're in the film business) was the first AD on that film. I'll get the info from him when it will air. He just got back last month from Europe where they filmed. It took 8 months!
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! Yes! I will be watching! I would have to say Pillars of the Earth makes my top ten fav books of all time!
ReplyDeleteYES! I cannot wait to see it! :)
ReplyDeletecrap...that means I'm actually going to have to get my butt in gear and read the book now, huh?
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait. My husband will be pleased. We did both Pillars Of The Earth and World Without End on CD (32 and 36 CD's respectively) and loved both books. The audio books were very well done. Even after 68 CD's we hated to see the story end.
We will most definitely be watching. I'll keep my eyes open for the show dates. Keep us informed.
I do hope they make World Without End into a mini-series too.
I haven't read the book yet either Michele, so we both need to get our butts into gear!
ReplyDeleteI did know that they were making this, but I hadn't seen any of the images before!
Maybe I should wait and watch this - my MiL loaned me the book in July of 2008 and I still have not read it! How awful is that? I can see it on my bookshelf right now. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteYes! yes I will because I could not get into this book. I tried hard but it wasn't working for me. Maybe I'll try again, someday :) Either way I'll catch the mini series.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be watching this.... Thanks Amy
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting news. I have a pristine copy of this book. NEVER read..imagine that. I need to read it... you think??
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the book but I love periood drama. I can't wait to watch this!
ReplyDeleteTalk about excited! Pillars and World Without End are two of my most favorite historical reads...Pillars is in my top ten all time faves! What do you think about Rufus Sewell as Tom Buider? Not so sure myself...I kind of pictured someone different in my mind, although Sewell is a great actor.
ReplyDeleteI am holding a giveaway right now on my blog of Pillars and World Without End. The person who has not read both books will win both or, if there is no one that hasn't, there will be one winner for each.
