2010 Release: The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory

Philippa Gregory is releasing the second book in her Cousins War series, The Red Queen, which is about Margaret of Anjou.  The first book in the series, The White Queen, opened to mixed reviews, so I'm interested to see how this one does.  I only have one critique....please lose the flowers!!  Ugh - they bother me!  What's the point in having a head but then covering her face?!

SYNOPSIS: The second book in Philippa's stunning new trilogy, The Cousins War, brings to life the story of Margaret Beaufort, a shadowy and mysterious character in the first book of the series - The White Queen - but who now takes centre stage in the bitter struggle of The War of the Roses. The Red Queen tells the story of the child-bride of Edmund Tudor, who, although widowed in her early teens, uses her determination of character and wily plotting to infiltrate the house of York under the guise of loyal friend and servant, undermine the support for Richard III and ultimately ensure that her only son, Henry Tudor, triumphs as King of England. Through collaboration with the dowager Queen Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret agrees a betrothal between Henry and Elizabeth's daughter, thereby uniting the families and resolving the Cousins War once and for all by founding of the Tudor dynasty.

  1. Yay, so excited the next one is coming out already! Hopefully it does not read so much like a history book this time.

LOL, totally know what you mean about the flowers, I should have mentioned that in my review..."Warning Flowers Cause Extreme Irritation" ;-)

    Have a good night!

  2. Totally agree Amy the flowers are so distracting. Not sure about this one. I couldn't make it 1/2 way through the white queen I was so disappointed. I will have to wait for your review.

  3. I'm iffy on Gregory, but I actually thought "The White Queen" was better than a lot of her other recent stuff. I haven't read anything about Margaret Beaufort, so I'll probably give this one a try (although I likely won't pay for it, it will be review copy, or library, I learned from my mistake of buying "The Other Queen" in hardcover).

  4. I too agree about the flowers. What's up with that? Oh well, still looking forward to reading this book.

    LOVE your site!!
    Keep up the GREAT work!!

  5. I can't wait to read it! I liked The White Queen :)
