The first ever biography of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife, who died in childbirth giving the king what he craved most - a son and heir.Jane Seymour is often portrayed as meek and mild and as the most successful, but one of the least significant, of Henry VIII's wives. The real Jane was a very different character, demure and submissive yet with a ruthless streak - as Anne Boleyn was being tried for treason, Jane was choosing her wedding dress. From the lowliest origins of any of Henry's wives her rise shows an ambition every bit as great as Anne's. Elizabeth Norton tells the thrilling life of a country girl from rural Wiltshire who rose to the throne of England and became the ideal Tudor woman.
Elizabeth Norton has also written: Anne Boleyn: Henry VIII's Obsession and She Wolves: The Notorious Queens of Medieval England.

Surprising that this is the first biography of her! Is that because of the "submissive and insignificant" stereotype?
ReplyDeleteAnother one for the tbr list.
ReplyDeleteOMG.. I have to read this..
ReplyDeleteSounds good.
I always thought there was steel behind that mousy exterior - good to see that she has a biographer.
ReplyDeleteI must get this book. I am everything Tudor at the moment.
ReplyDeleteHey, have you ever read "The Nine Day Queen"? It's YA Fiction, but it's good, and it's all about Jane Grey.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's good, but I have to say I'm worried. I have her "She-Wolves" book, and though I haven't read the whole thing, it has some odd errors in the chapter on Isabella, like having Isabella being besieged in the Tower! Perhaps Norton will get better with the Tudors.
ReplyDeleteI bet that will be good. I've always wanted to know more about her.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds wonderful - how odd that no one ever wrote a biography of her. Hmmm.
