Tuesday Thingers

Today's question: Series. Do you collect any series? Do you read series books? Fantasy? Mystery? Science fiction? Religious? Other genre? Do you use the series feature in LT to help you find new books or figure out what you might be missing from a series?
Great question.  I love, love, love series!   I am all about historical fiction so that constitutes a good majority if the series I have read and are currently reading.  I have read series in other genres, such as Harry Potter, the Wicked Years series by Gregory Maguire and the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice.

My favorite historical fiction series are the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, the Cheney Sisters series by Susan Carroll, Welsh trilogy by Sharon Kay Penman, French Revolution series and the Catherine Medici series by Jean Plaidy.  I have not read, but am slowly but surely collecting the Master of Rome series by Colleen McCullough and the two series by Dorothy Dunnett, The House of Niccolo and the Lymond Chronicles.

I've never used the series function with LT, I usually use Amazon to search for new books, but I think I'll have to give it a shot!

  1. I'm an historical fiction fan too and can't wait to check out the series you mention!

  2. Was not aware that there were so many historical fiction series. I will definitely have to check them out!

  3. Shana & shelburns - at the very least, I would highly recommend the Outlander series. I'll warn you though - they are huge books, but don't let that scare you - it is so worth it!!!

  4. Alyce - it took me a while to give in to all the hoopla about Outlander - the time travel didn't appeal to me. I was hooked after the first chapter and haven't looked back since. Gabaldon is an amazing writer!

  5. You seem to enjoy some of the same historical series that I do, Amy. Have you ever tried Cynthia Harrod-Eagles' Morland series? She takes a Yorkshire family from the time of Richard III all the way to present day. Right now, she's finishing up WWI--about 30 volumes so far. In some volumes there are even floorplans to show how the manor house changes over the years. I dole the books in this series out slowly because I don't want to catch up completely and be pacing the floor for the next one.

  6. I used to read the Babysitter's Club! You know, back in the day... about 12 years ago! Now... I just finished all three books of Meg Cabot's Queen of Babble trilogy. Does that count?

  7. Oh my goodness - I forgot about the Babysitter's club, and Sweet Valley High books??? Sorry - that was from a comment on your post!

I've got to get out there and check out some of these series!

  8. I've read all of the OUTLANDER books (my all-time favorite) and the INTO THE WILDERNESS series but I've put off reading so many other series because I know, once I start, then I'll want to continue immediately with the next book -- which sounds silly -- but I like to mix things up (though historical fiction is my favorite) and I guess I worry I'll end up bogged down. And, yet, if I have to wait too long for the next one in a series to be published, it irritates me!! I think I'm getting in the mood, though, to finally read The Lymond Chronicles and all of the Penman books I have -- I've only read SUNNE IN SPLENDOUR (which makes my top-ten list!)

  9. Hi there lost twin sister---

I'm trying to get through the Dunnett series and Colleen McCullough's series, too. (Imagine that...us reading the same thing? Never!) ha.

  10. Cathy - no I haven't read her series, but am interested in checking them out. I havent' heard any reviews really - have you read them and what do you think?

  11. kilax - I LOVED the babysitters club too! I even wanted to start my own club. Did you ever watch the tv show? I was hooked on that and Nancy Drew books.

Wendy - Sweet Valley High was the coolest! Welcome to my blog and please stop by again. I'll be visiting yours as well.

Lynn - I would highly recommend the Welsh Trilogy from Penman - outstanding - probably my most favorite of series.

Michele - us alike - no way! That's shocking! Hehe
