New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn returns with a Jazz Age tale of grand adventure...
On the verge of a stilted life as an aristocrat's wife, Poppy Hammond does the only sensible thing—she flees the chapel in her wedding gown. Assisted by the handsome curate who calls himself Sebastian Cantrip, she spirits away to her estranged father's quiet country village, pursued by the family she left in uproar. But when the dust of her broken engagement settles and Sebastian disappears under mysterious circumstances, Poppy discovers there is more to her hero than it seems.
With only her feisty lady's maid for company, Poppy secures employment and travels incognita—east across the seas, chasing a hunch and the whisper of clues. Danger abounds beneath the canopies of the silken city, and Poppy finds herself in the perilous sights of those who will stop at nothing to recover a fabled ancient treasure. Torn between allegiance to her kindly employer and a dashing, shadowy figure, Poppy will risk it all as she attempts to unravel a much larger plan—one that stretches to the very heart of the British government, and one that could endanger everything, and everyone, that she holds dear.

ReplyDeletefun giveaway, & great book!
ReplyDeleteI first read Deanna Raybourn because I saw one of her books was available as a free Kindle download some time ago. I was skeptical that I'd like her work because I am a fan of straight historical fiction and virtually never read in the pure romance genre. She seemed a bit romance-y at first glance. I am so grateful I gave her a chance because I have been the gainer. Her prose has swagger; I love her style. I hope to read this book and would be grateful for the free copy that is so graciously offered here (if the winner). Amy, awesome stuff, as per usual. Kudos, Kara
ReplyDeleteHallo, Hallo,
ReplyDeleteI have had my eye on reading Ms Raybourn's novels for awhile, but I simply haven't had the chance to get into them. I appreciate the diversity of the stories she is able to write and I think it is quite lovely there is a bookaway attached to the tour. One day I can see myself reading through everything she has published thus far along and getting caught up inside the breadth of her narrative voice. Such a lovely author to feature and I am appreciating following the tour! Thank you!
A jazz Age setting and Poppy sounds delightful. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDeanna Raybourn is one of my favorite authors. Count me in! Thanks.
