⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

WOW! I am blown away that this is Kimberly Burns' debut novel! She is a wonderful new voice in historical fiction!

The Mrs. Tabor tells the story of Baby Doe Tabor, one of Colorado's most famous women who would eventually have a movie and an opera made based on her life.

After Baby Doe marries her first husband they move to Colorado to work the mine that his father gifted them for their marriage. While Baby Doe is ambitious, smart, and not afraid of working hard or getting dirty, her husband would rather spend the day (and their money) drinking. When their mine and their marriage fall apart, Baby Doe is granted a divorce and moves to Leadville which was an up and coming town where men went to find their fortunes mining for Silver. Colorado mining can break a man or make him a millionaire overnight. And that is where Baby Doe set her sights on a rich, powerful man in the town called Horace Tabor. He was married but that doesn't stop her! I think I'll stop here, I don't want to give too much of the story away.

The author definitely knocked it out of the park with this one! I absolutely loved every minute I spent reading it. Baby Doe is a fascinating woman and Burns did her great justice in the book. She's a firecracker for sure! The secondary characters were great as well, especially Horace's first wise, Augusta who most definitely needs a book of her own! Horace sure loved him some tough women!

I am greatly looking forward to her next novel on Mattie Silks, Denver's most successful madam and I highly recommend you picking up The Mrs. Tabor!
