When strangers take part in a series of group suicides, everything suggests that a cult is to blame. How do you stop a cult when nobody knows they are a member?

Nine suicides
One Cult
No leader

Nine people arrive one night on Chelsea Bridge. They’ve never met. But at the same time, they run, and leap to their deaths. Each of them received a letter in the post that morning, a pre-written suicide note, and a page containing only four words: Nothing important happened today.

That is how they knew they had been chosen to become a part of the People Of Choice: A mysterious suicide cult whose members have no knowledge of one another.

Thirty-two people on that train witness the event. Two of them will be next. By the morning, People Of Choice are appearing around the globe; it becomes a movement. A social media page that has lain dormant for four years suddenly has thousands of followers. The police are under pressure to find a link between the cult members, to locate a leader that does not seem to exist.

How do you stop a cult when nobody knows they are a member?

A shocking, mesmerisingly original and pitch-black thriller, Nothing Important Happened Today confirms Will Carver as one of the most extraordinary, exciting authors in crime fiction.

Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"The drawback of a successful suicide cult is the constant recruitement."

Nothing Important Happened Today is quite possibly the most unique book I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Carver is a flippin' genius for coming up with the premise and he executes it brilliantly.

Nine strangers appear on Chelsea Bridge one day, each holding a bag with a rope and suicide note. They don't speak but at the same time, they leap to their deaths in front of 32 witnesses. The strangers are part of a cult called the People of Choice. They won't be the last cult members and as the novel progresses more members receive their letters that only contain the words - Nothing Important Happened Today - which signals them that their time is here. Each member is only assigned a number but Carver delves into their lives so the reader gets to know their stories, if not their names.

Not only is the book a commentary on cults and cult mentality, it's also an important read on today's society with social media and our constant need for validation and admiration, our desperation to feel a part of something or a movement.

Nothing Important Happened Today will definitely be in my Top 5 reads of the year. It's a remarkable read that you will want to inhale as soon as you start it. I sure did!

Orenda Books is my absolute favorite UK publisher and I thank them for sending a copy to me! I have now added every Will Carver book to my list for Santa. I will read anything this man writes!
