In the summer of 1791, fifteen-year-old Miss Jane Austen is determined to accomplish three things: to do something useful, write something worthy, and fall madly in love. While visiting at Goodnestone Park in Kent for a month of festivities in honor of her brother's engagement to Miss Elizabeth Bridges, Jane meets the boy-next-door—the wealthy, worldly, and devilishly handsome Edward Taylor, heir to Bifrons Park, and hopefully her heart! Like many of Jane’s future heroes and heroines, she soon realizes that there are obstacles—social, financial, and otherwise—blocking her path to love and marriage, one of them personified by her beautiful and sweet tempered rival, Charlotte Payler.
Unsure of her own budding romance, but confident in her powers of observation, Jane distracts herself by attempting to maneuver the affections of three other young couples. But when her well-intentioned matchmaking efforts turn into blundering misalliance, Jane must choose between following her own happily-ever-after, or repairing those relationships which, based on erroneous first impressions, she has misaligned.

ReplyDeleteI loved researching and writing this novel. It was thrilling to learn so much new information about Edward Taylor that Austen biographers didn't seem to know about, and to share it with the world in this novel. My mother introduced me to Jane Austen at the age of 13 in the early 1960's and I visit my friend every year to renew my acquaintance. Her books are old friends and I am an avid reader and there are many books once read I do not read again. I look forward to reading Jane Austen's First Love.

ReplyDeleteI bet Jane Austen would be so surprised to know about the enduring appeal of her books. She probably never dreamed of their success all these years later.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting, Cheryl, to imagine what Jane Austen would think if she could see her incredible legacy today. For reasons too numerous to count, I'm sure she'd be absolutely astonished.
DeleteI hope that Jane (and you) enjoy Jane at 15, as she falls in love with the unforgettable Edward Taylor, in Jane Austen's First Love!

ReplyDeleteThis book looks like a fun read and I would love to win the package.
ReplyDeleteI really think Jane used a lot of herself and her own experiences in her novels, which is what I believe made her so amazing and pretty much a genre unto herself :) Honestly I see Austen as a genre, which is something that other authors can't boast! Congrats Syrie :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun way to cap off this tour that was a joy to be part of. The only sad thing about it is it's end. But I am hopeful we will be united again next year by Laurel and Syrie it is a perfect match.
