On July 1, 2011 Sourcebooks will be re-issuing Barbara Erskine's Whispers in the Sand
, which was originally published in 1995. They synopsis has got me really intrigued, but I haven't read a Erskine novel yet and so I wondered if any of you lovely readers had read either this book or any other by Erskine that you can recommend.

ReplyDeleteI have this one for review also, I have read I think three of Barbara Erskines books...Lady of Hay was spectacular in my opinion. The timetravel aspect is one that I have been fascinated with for a long time..I think you will enjoy this book Amy...Another author you might like is Lillian Stewart Carl...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see Barbara Erskine's books...I loved Lady of Hay and have a few more of her older books on my TBR (Kingdom of Shadows and Child of the Phoenix). Can't wait to see the reviews on this one!

ReplyDeleteI read this 2 years ago on a holiday in Egypt, cruise down the Nile. Very good book, I loved it, very well written and keeps you on the edge of your chair all the time ! The ending is a bit abrupt but a great read never the less. I also read Kingdom of Shadows by Barbara Erskine, which I liked very much as well, this one is set in Scotland with Robert the Bruce. I like time travel a lot. I have a few of Barbara's other books on my TBR list :-)
ReplyDeleteThis one somehow didn't quite work for me - it has all the elements that I love, time-slip, artists, Egypt, etc. and I adored the Victorian story line. I just found myself a bit annoyed with the modern-day plot and the ending was too abrupt for me.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it was definitely a ride and it definitely made me want to take a cruise down the Nile!
I visited her site and feel she is an author I will enjoy. She is a most interesting woman. Her page on ghosts should be read. WHISPERS IN THE SAND covers an era and place that is a favorite. Have added it to my wish list.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for any book about Egypt, especially one that involves a Nile cruise, though amazingly I've never read "Death on the Nile." "Whispers in the Sand" sounds like a fascinating read, and the cover is very pretty and colorful.
