2010 Re-Issue: The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber

I am really excited to see this novel coming out with a new and, may I say, kick ass cover! I read The Crimson Petal and the White a few years ago and I haven't gotten it out of my head yet!  I loved Sugar's story...it's definitely different than any other HF I've read before or since!

by Michael Faber

US & UK Release Date:  July 1, 2010

SYNOPSIS:  Gripping from the first page, this immense novel is an intoxicating and deeply satisfying read. Faber's most ambitious fictional creation yet, it is sure to affirm his position as one of the most talented and brilliant writers working in the UK. Sugar, an alluring, nineteen-year-old whore in the brothel of the terrifying Mrs Castaway, yearns for a better life. Her ascent through the strata of 1870's London society offers us intimacy with a host of loveable, maddening and superbly realised characters. At the heart of this panoramic, multi-layered narrative is the compelling struggle of a young woman to lift her body and soul out of the gutter. The Crimson Petal and the White is a big, juicy, must-read of a novel that will delight, enthral, provoke and entertain young and old, male and female.

  3. I actually have the original hardcover sitting on my shelf. Unfortunately after all these years I still have not read it! I prefer the original cover more then this one...that's actually why I bought it in the first place.

  4. This is actually a hilarious post for me because I had the book in hardcover and then finally settled down to read it a few years ago and HATED it. I think I got through about 150 pages and was just so disengaged that I couldn't imagine sitting with it for another 600 pages...

  5. I also prefer the original cover. Like Muse, that was what attracted me to it initially. I've owned it for several years and I'm FINALLY going to read it this year for one of my historical fiction challenges!

  6. Not sure I'm digging this. The cover with the apple and the bed was beautiful; I'm rather partial to that one.
