In bookstores tomorrow

The extraordinary author of the Outlander series, Diana Gabladon, is releasing her third Lord John novel in paperback tomorrow!

I have the other two Lord John novels on Mt. TBR, but I think I can safely assume that they are brilliant since they come from the mind of Gabaldon.  I do admit to not liking Lord John in the Outlander all that much, but since he's not after my man Jamie anymore, I think I'll give him another try.

Lord John and the Hand of the Devils is a trio of novellas in one:  In Lord John and the Hellfire Club, Lord John glimpses a stranger in the doorway of a gentlemen’s club—and is stirred by a desperate entreaty to meet in private. The rendezvous forestalled by a sudden murder, Lord John will wade into a maze of political treachery and a dangerous, debauched underground society. . . . In Lord John and the Succubus, English soldiers fighting in Prussia are rattled by the nocturnal visitations of a deadly woman who sucks life and soul from a man. Called to investigate the night-hag, Lord John finds a murdered soldier and a treacherous Gypsy, and comes to the stark realization that among the spirits that haunt men, none frighten more than the specters conjured by the heart. . . . In Lord John and the Haunted Soldier, Lord John is thrust into the deadly case of an exploding battlefield cannon. Wounded in the same battle, Lord John is called to testify and soon confronts his own ghosts—and the shattering prospect that a traitor is among the ranks of His Majesty’s armed forces.

Have you read any Lord John?

  1. In the TBR pile. Someday. And I'll meet you at high noon on main street to duel it out over Jamie.

  2. I've read all of them. I have to agree that I've never been a huge fan of Lord John -- maybe, as you say, because he was after Jamie?! I don't think it had anything to do with him being gay -- I think anybody other than Claire was just not acceptable!! Anyway, Lord John has grown on me a bit after reading the LJG novels.

  3. Maybe there is going to have to be some sort of duel-off, because I am pretty sure that there are plenty of people around who would claim Jamie...including me!

I have read all of the LJ books. I didn't really like the first one, mainly because I thought the premise was a bit silly, but I have really enjoyed everything since then, including the stories in this book.

  4. I haven't read any of the Lord John books. For now I am strictly an Outlander series reader. I really like her writing though, and once I find an author I like I usually read everything they have written if it's possible, so I'm sure I will read them someday.

  5. I too have only read the first of the Lord John books. I liked it alright. It cannot match the brilliance of the Outlander series, but it is worth reading for sure,

  6. I've read all of them (got them for Christmas last year, actually). There's one of them ... rrrr, and I forget which one but it was one of the last two ... that is "short stories" (which for Gabaldon means novellas) rather than a single novel. It was one of the last two though.

I was a bit surprised since I don't normally read short stories and I wasn't sure if I would have wanted it otherwise, but it ended up being a good read anyway.

...just went and checked my books and it's Hand of Devils that is the collection of short stories/novellas. I think there are three.

  7. Okay, duh, I just reread your post and you had mentioned that. I was actually skimming as I was finally going through more submissions and adding you to HereBeReviews.com, but I saw mention of Gabaldon and had to comment ... and then immediately looked like I hadn't even read your blog. Sorry, it's late here and I'm tired and shouldn't be commenting anywhere.
